THETA XI
Louisiana State University
Our members' parents are one of our most valuable assets. We want to establish an immediate connection from us to you, and encourage participation in your son's college and fraternity experience. Your son's health, safety, and wellbeing are major concerns that all parents have and we want to establish trust directly with you. Theta Xi has a zero tolerance for hazing and high-risk behavior. However, this a small part of our message. Theta Xi and the chapter house provides a full experience that we have broken down for you within this site. You will find our section about academics, living, and opportunities all detailed. Our core values and individual responsibility are present throughout all of Theta Xi and they receive our highest focus and importance. Membership in Theta Xi is ultimately a part of something your son can have for a lifetime.
NO! Theta Xi, as a chapter and as a nationwide fraternity, does not condone hazing in any way, shape, or form by initiated members or pre-initiation associates. Strict anti-hazing policies have been in place for many years, and are an integral part of member education. Theta Xi promotes leadership, team-building and brotherhood, not physical or mental harm. We believe that hazing anyone is unacceptable and completely contrary to the concept of brotherhood. In fact Theta Xi has joined with over 20 other men’s and women’s groups across America to establish a 24-hour a day hotline to anonymously report concerns for hazing at any Chapter.
Our alumni leaders and undergraduate officers are very involved with LSU to make sure these values and positions are upheld. Also, our Core Leadership governance model is the fabric that provides accountability, direction, guidance and leadership to promote the long-term viability and success of the organization.
YES! And in a good way! Theta Xi promotes a scholastic program that gives each member the opportunity to learn and excel in his field. Theta Xi recently introduced the All True Men initiative that focuses on academic excellence and leadership. We encourage each member to get involved on and off campus in the community that are related to his major and interests. With our large numbers, our members can always find others with the same major and often share classes and study sessions.
We have implemented a written scholastic program that includes minimum scholastic requirements for all members. Our members' Spring 2020 GPA average was 3.53, which ranked 6th of 18 fraternities, and above the LSU undergraduate men's average of 3.36.
We currently award two yearly scholarships exclusively for our chapter members, based on academic performance, participation in activities including offices and committees held, and honors recieved at LSU. They are the John J. Capdevielle Scholarship through the LSU Alumni Association, and the Dick McEachern Scholarship through the Theta Xi Foundation.
Success breeds success! I think our members are understanding the benefits of their hard work and dedication to do things right. We all know 18-22 year old guys like to have fun, and that occasionally screw ups will occur. Our Core Leadership program and its Policy Board in conjunction with their officers have forced members to take responsibility for their actions. The rewards of "staying out of the ditches" has afforded them much of the success they’ve enjoyed.
Another scorecard is their incredible success over the last 6 years in new member recruitment. Compared to campus average acceptance of <50% on final Fall bids, this past year they set a new Chapter record of 80% return and the five previous years were all above 70%. This is incredible! Even reducing their final bid numbers each year, the Chapter has remained one of the largest on campus. One or two years a group might randomly hit a home run, but not 6 years in a row. Their success is a tribute to the quality of our past and present members, our accountability structure, parental and alumni support, the alumni board and our great fraternity house.
Looking forward, the key to our future success will be determined by our ability to sustain what has been attained, and continually recruiting exceptional young men as members. Thank you to all who have helped make this possible.
Yours in the bonds,
